Francistown School of Chess partnered with First Capital Bank to host a chess tournament which was known as the FIRST CAPITAL BANK EASTER SHOWDOWN. The tournament was held at Tati River Lodge from the 19^th– 21^stof April 2019 and the tournament was rated. It was a first of its kind in Francistown and is believed to have immensely contributed to the development of chess in Francistown, the entire Botswana and Southern Africa. “The Showdown” as its trending name was divided into the following competition sections

a.    Development section (Under 11)

b.   Under 16

c.    Under 20

d.   Open Section

e.   Ladies section.

First Capital Bank of Botswana sponsored the tournament with P22 000. This sponsorship saw brilliant minds from across the country and some neighbouring countries converging in Francistown to fight it out. The most notable participants were Botswana`s rising star Candidate Master Otsile Mapini who at his young age has forced himself into Botswana top 10 ratings bracket,  Kingdom of Eswatini`s finest Mbongeni Mabuza and Candidate Master Sikhanyiso Sihlongonyane. Others who graced the Showdown were Zimbabwe`s Elisha Chimbamu rated 2000 and Mukundi Madzikwa, an 8 year Zimbabwean dynamite from Young Chess Masters Chess Academy.

This tournament was an opportunity for young chess prodigies to get a chance to play and rub shoulders with local and international chess players.
